Circuit Court of Cook County
The Bridgeview Courthouse is part of the 5th Municipal District of the Circuit Court of Cook County of the State of Illinois, and services the Southwestern suburbs of Cook County. Illinois is divided into 24 judicial circuits. The Circuit Court of Cook County is one of the largest court systems in the world with over 400 judges that serve the 2.1 million residents of Cook County. More than 1 million cases are filed in Cook County each year.
The Circuit Court of Cook County is a unified court system supervised by the Honorable Timothy C. Evans, whose job it is to coordinate the administrative functions of the court, and oversee all the trial courts. As part of his duties, he assigns the 400 judges throughout the court’s ten divisions and six geographic districts, and oversees the court’s Surety Section and the Juvenile Justice and Child Protection Resource section. He also prepares the budget and supervises the 2,738 employees that work in 15 offices that provide court-support services such as court reporting and foreign language interpreting.
Three Departments
The court is organized into into three functional departments:
- County—Oversees Chancery, County, Criminal, Domestic Relations, Domestic Violence, Elder Law and Miscellaneous Remedies, Law, and Probate.

- Juvenile Justice and Child Protection—Hears cases involving delinquent minors and child abuse, child neglect, child dependency, private guardianship, termination of parental rights, and orders of protection filed in conjunction with another Child Protection proceeding.

- Sixth Municipal District—Markham, serving the Southern suburbs of Cook County
